Saeed Abbas: Master drummer and teacher of traditional African music from Ghana West Africa

GyE NyamE

GyE NyamE CD cover front“GyeNyamE is earthy, primal. You’ll want to shake it up!”

GyE NyamE (c) 2004, the first solo recording by the young Ghanaian master drummer Saeed Abbas, is a tribute to the musical traditions he first learned from the elders of his tribe, the Hausa.

His joy and passion ring out in powerful and breathtaking percussion. His flute weaves brightly over the top of these age-old musical tapestries. At other times, it is the bell that drives drum, flute and rattle ever faster pulling the listener with it. Many of these pieces are for ceremonies; birth, death, love and war.

Although a faithful chronicler, Abbas gives us his own fresh signature performing all parts himself including vocals. Listen for incredible breaks.
